Easy Sausage Gravy Recipe

I used to really balk at making gravy. Unless I used a mix or those little packets that come with the turkey, I just wasn’t good at it. I’m still far from being an expert… except when it comes to sausage gravy! When I discovered how easy it was (and delicious! and nutritious when you use healthy ingredients!), I was hooked!!

Here it is:

SANDY'S SAUSAGE GRAVY

1 lb. Elm Run Farms bulk pork sausage
2 Tbsp. whole grain spelt or Einkorn flour
1 cup whole milk (raw if you have access to it)

1) Crumble sausage into your favorite skillet. Cook over medium heat, stirring every few minutes, until it’s no longer pink.
2) Add flour, continue to cook and stir for about 2 minutes.
3) Gradually add milk, stirring as you go. Cook until it's bubbly and starts to thicken.

That’s it! A few notes and tips:

>> No need to add salt or any other seasoning as the sausage is already lightly seasoned.
>> My favorite flour for this is Einkorn, but you can use really any kind - regular, whole grain, or even gluten-free - just something to thicken it a bit .
>> You can also use any kind of milk, including coconut or almond milk - it just may not taste quite as rich.
>> Adjust the flour and/or milk amounts if you like a thinner/thicker gravy.
>> I sometimes make larger batches and we’ll eat it several different ways for a few days - served over biscuits, rice, or potatoes (for my non-veggie-loving husband!), or over cauliflower rice or other veggies (for me). Of course, it goes well with eggs or pancakes, too.

Give it a try… in no time, you’ll be an expert too! Or let me know if you have any questions.

So tell me, what is your favorite food to serve with sausage gravy?
